Hi There, picture is very small, but it looks like it could be a Reeves Trojan, which is still available as a set of castings from Reeves 2000.

There are similarities but the brass cylinder block is square. It does have the crosshead linkage though. I do have trouble loading pictures, using the attachment option does not work so I have just cut & paste.

Possibly from a book written in the early fifties, What's the bore and stroke? It is single acting?

Hi guys appears to be home made going by the overlong bolts going through the main bearing and base and everything of square design  but could be wrong {:-{

Does it run? as Fred would say. :}
 It does look home made no problem with that. Just a thought I notice no location holes in the base, could the extra long bolt section on the front column be intended for this (if you turn it around)?

I don't  know if it runs or not. It was rather grubby when I bought it from a boot sale some years ago. Once the slide valve timing has been reset & everything tightened up I don't see any reason why it would not run. I expect to put it up for sale in another place later today.

See reply #3, question re bore and stroke wasn't answered, but it is from the book I mentioned. My first foray into steam engine building, Single acting slide valve engine, better steam economy than an oscillator (Wobbler for the colonists). Builder has increased designed crankpin dia. as I was informed to.

  Regards  Ian.

 Flash steam engine design in same book was unbuildable, todays disposable income model engineers would really have something to moan about if they tried.

The bore is 12mm & the stroke 20mm.

Yep, original was 1/2" X 3/4". Bloke that got me involved in making one had his own in a metal hulled 30" long straight runner. Nice compact powerful engine.  The two long pillar studs were to go on one side of the engine to mount a bearing lubrication supply tank which has two microbore supply pipes for the main bearings. Who ever, didn't make and fit that.
