My contribution - and an antidote to all those "big uns"

This is Calisha (PD.235) entering Aberdeen Harbour at about 6:20 this evening

A lovely mild sunny evening, too

Originally a Dutch built beam trawler ( fished for Plaice and Sole ) now operated by West Coast Sea Products as a Scallop dredger

Thanks for the info Davie.

I often drive past the harbour on the way home. This vessel caught my eye by lying so low in the water and then the much more open deck than usual for North East fishing vessels.

Your explanation is interesting

Crew looked nice and relaxed - probably considerably more "relaxed" a few hours later!

As 68 says the working days on these scallop dredgers is hellish lol , sometimes hauling the dredges every hour and working 20-22 hour days for a week at a time on the bigger boats !!!

There are a fair amount of these boats in the NE but you only see them in the summertime. Like the old Herring drifters did these boats work around the entire UK. Summertime they fish from Gourdon ( south of Aberdeen ) to Shetland. Autumn they fish the West Coast into the Irish Sea. They overwinter fishing down in the Channel and in the spring they work up the East Coast of England.
