Glow Plugs
« on: February 11, 2013, 12:00:41 pm »

I understand that TAYLOR glow plugs are no longer in manufacture.
Does anyone how those plugs equate to other manufacturers plugs? These other plugs seem to range from hot to cold and all I really need is general purpose plug.
All that I could find was http://www.flairmodels.co.uk/Engines/Glowplugs.htm for detailed a comparison.
Having run only barred type Taylor's since the year dot I have no reference point available to me. My normal fuel is DuraGlo 10 in "inexpensive" marine engines (SC/ASP/Irvine etc).

Thankyou and we are back to my question of which plug type equates to the equivalent of a "standard" Taylor plug.
BTW, Still waiting for HobbyKing to post out my package that was ready for dispatch early last Friday - they are NOT the quickest ......

Hi BJ
Glowplugs have been changing recently, as the expensive metals used in the elements become more expensive - they don't seem to last nearly as long (but that's another topic)  %)
There are few "idle bar" (the bit of rod across the bottom) about these days as a 'standard' plug should be enough to deal with all but the very slowest revs.
For general use with 10% nitro, you should be looking for a medium/cool plug (the higher the nitro used, the 'colder' the plug needs to be).
Something like the Jen 4  from Just engines -
http://www.justengines.co.uk/acatalog/Glow_Plugs.html
of the latest generation of Maxflash from Model Technics (order from your usual fuel supplier)
http://www.modeltechnics.com/glowplug.htm
Your local shop might also have some old stock of Firepower (F5) which are another possibility.
Cheers
Danny

BJ,

Two plugs that I would consider for your application are the OS 8 and the Enya No. 4.
