Where to put towing bollards on an 8ft tanker??
« on: February 11, 2013, 07:30:53 PM »

Hi there all.

Some of you may be aware that I'm in the final stages of completing an 8ft supertanker based on a Models By Design hull. There's a build thread on here in working vessels '1/96 supertanker and more'.

It's a fully functioning model in it's own rights with main drive, twin bow thrusters and a stern thruster. I always intended it to be able to be used for towing and for tugs to play around with, hence my question below.

Is it best for it to have 2 towing bollards, port and starboard on the bow and stern for you to hook onto or a single central one on bow and stern? There's nothing fixed in place yet for towing so am just getting some ideas.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Dave.  :-)) :-))

Hello Dave, when im tug towing I take the line through the centre lead fore and aft, but there is some guys that like to use briddles so there will be line going to port and starboard fore and aft.

Thanks for the replies guys. Think I'll probably play it safe and put 3 on bow and stern, ie centreline, port and stbd., should be able cater for everyone then.
