Nordkap help please
« on: March 03, 2013, 06:41:59 pm »

starting a repair to a billings trawler built about 1974 think its Thor but not sure...looks like the Nordkap without the covered rear deck.
Its got  no lights or radio control, the motor and electrics have been removed,  so  Im in need of a few pointers like size of motor, battery and what is the best radio for a compleat novice to use to impress the grandchildren.
not sure about lights, can we take the power off motor battery or is it best to have dedicated batteries.
thanks for looking dave

Hi Dave . I built the nordcap a couple of years ago, motor was a graupner standard 600 speed. You could get away with a 500 speed mine is a bit fast with the 600 speed.
I used a mtronics 20 amp speed controller, and a 6 volt 4 ah lead acid battery.regarding lights I run mine with separate 4 AA batteries , it saves possible dimming when running the motor.
 Hope this helps    Tony
PS Don`t forget fuses between the batt and speed controller, and between the speed controller and motor.
