« on: February 18, 2013, 01:46:43 pm »

hi everyone just wanted to say im new to this site always wanted to get into model boating but never had the chance to do so
but now my children are grown up so to speak and left home i can concentrate on trying to enjoy this great hobby.
i have been tryiing to build a smitt rotterdam for a number of years on and off, but never had the chance to finish it,
all electrics have changed now i just hope some experianced modelers could help me in this field as im very very new to all this.

Hi Paul,

Many of us are still beginners..... it's just some of us have been at it for years!

Welcome to the Mayhem.
(Watch out for 'Admin', he's always grumpy on a Monday morning!)

Here's a couple of links which might assist.
 http://www.action-electronics.co.uk/pdfs/Billings%20Smit%20Rotterdam%20-%20Frans%20de%20Ruijter.pdf and
http://http://www.action-electronics.co.uk/pdfs/Smit%20Rotterdam%20-%20Ken%20Brotherton.pdf
There are also a large number of wiring diagrams for other twin-engined tugs on the website which would also be suitable. It just depends on what functions you want to operate and how deep your pockets are!

Don't worry Paul, I'll delete all the detritus once your build continues!    :-)

hi all can anyone tell me if it is better to use a p94 speed controller with my d919 series como 2.5to 1 ratio geared motors
than 2 off mtronic viper 15s and a viper mixer.
as the model is a smitt rotterdam tug with limited access for the wiring of controllers etc could the p94 by action speed controller and its other components that go with it be able to  be fitted in my smitt rotterdam.
this boat was built 15 years ago so im trying to adapt the boat with the best electrics I'm able.

How many channels does the radio set have?
Unfortunately "better" is subjective as it depends on your own opinion.
It depends on space, access for setting up, etc
