Academy 1:150 scale motorised u-boat 1xb, any good?
« on: March 04, 2013, 08:35:06 pm »

Just got myself one of these Academy 1:150 scale motorised U-Boats-1XB.
As I like doing static model subs, both my other models are, should be say...not in great condition as seaworthy examples, I thought this one would be a proper painted jobbie.
I know 95% of folk on this site are into RC stuff or make large scale plan static models instead of smaller plastic kits, but, as I am limited for space and in what I can do due to my disability, small scale kits are my only option, at the moment...but, has anybody had a go at one of these kits or know what they are like? I know they are made in Korea and are cheap, £20 posted, so think that maybe quality maybe an issue. Saying that just found the same sub going for £26 and loads of other ships etc, they don't look too bad.
Just thoughts.

Eddie,
I am building a small sub look at this WIP:http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1718009
Maybe it will fuel those creative ideas. The hull diameter is one inch.
Peace,
Tom

Paul Cook 'Upscope' converted one of those to R/C some years back. He did a article on it for MMI magazine, can't remember which one. Paul will know I'm sure.

I have the article in "one" of my folders in the loft - it really was an easy conversion to do as well.

Thank you very much for the info and the pics, have decided that this is going to be my 'at the caravan' project.
