Planet T5 glitches
« on: March 17, 2013, 01:43:16 pm »

At the club this morning, a member who sails competitively said these radios had been banned from competitions due to glitches in the system.
He said that when there was a number of these in use at the same time (he didnt say how many), there was a delay of up to 2 secs for the boat to respond causing problems when in close proximity with other boats and buoys.

Clearly this probably isnt an issue with scale models, but may become one with fast boats.

Has anyone heard of/experienced anything similar?

Yep.  My t5 is absolutely useless with Mtronics ESCs.  It has delays, the failsafe in the rx cant be centred correctly, etc etc.  Its fine with Action or Electonize though

I think that's more likely to be the problem than a handful of planets in operation at once.
But.... if we are talking fast electrics I don't think there would be many Mtroniks in use.
What Competition and what rules are we discussing here.
Is this a 'Committee' ruling at one club or is it National?

Not many mtronics then.
If the Planet 5 is not up to running a
sail winch and rudder servo why are they
so popular?

Just had a shufti round and the prob lem seems to be at Gosport
where a phone mast adjacent to the lake is the culprit.
They are not banned but it is recommend that they are not used for the 2013 Nationals
Loan sets may be made available.

My t5 is absolutely useless with Mtronics ESCs.

Never had problems with Mtroniks ESCs and Planet RX's myself.  Mounting the Rx high up and as far away from other electrinics is good practice.  I have been to various events where up to a couple of dozen T5s are being used at once, again without a problem.

The one glitch I did have turned out to be a dodgy servo lead neutral connection.

No problems with them Ray
It seems to be a localised
problem in Gosport with
a phone mast being blamed.
There has never been an issue
at our lake.

most of our group are using the planet radios , there has on occasions been around ten of us sailing together , occasionally one boat will go into failsafe mode , often at the furthest point of the lake ( brownout ? )
