Thank you  very much for info abour the bow! I was thinking of changing the shape to a more pointed version ... but I wasn't 100% if it would come out OK. Now I will leave it as it is!

Designers all have their own ideas about how a boat will move through the water. A sharp entry might blow through a wave rather than lift with the wave. A blunt bow may slam and pound.
Here's a couple teaser pictures of the bow of the Time Bandit for comparison.

Just a question Andy........the location looks like a disused stone quarry  %) ....how do the intend to re-float the vessel?....40 days & 40 nights of rain?....... {-) ....Derek

I think this bow on the time bandit is ugly ... maybe it saves some fuel?  %)
The crabbers need to be very stable in very bad weather. No need to go fast or powerful for big trawling nets.

Added another 9mm to the top of the bow. Had to do this because the bow was too low (or the crab pots a little too big). They have to fit under the shelterdeck.

Then I made corrections to the cardboard mockup. A little bit more sloping to the back and rear sides. Couldn't resist to put all crab pots on deck to see if it looks ok!!! Looks just fantastic!!!!

Maybe they are going to swamp the quarry with shale oil?

Here's a couple teaser pictures of the bow of the Time Bandit for comparison.

Never having watched the Deadliest Catch (lack a satellite dish to receive those Reality TV committed channels) I cannot say what the hull of the TIME BANDIT used to look like.
But this protruding cylindrical bulb to me looks like having been retrofitted later, post-delivery so to speak.
As the diameter of its cylinder doesn't look too wide and the structure of cylinder and semi-sphere quite sturdy, I think the perils of slamming aren't excessive, despite the Alaskan notoriously heavy sea.
If it helps cutting fuel costs in moderate sea states.

The bulb was retrofitted 2 years ago ... maybe we should open another topic about king crabbers?  ;)

Some more pics of my cardboardworks!!! Everything looks alright and I can build the rest of the CM!!! It looks very impressive in real size! The hull shape is different than all model ships you see normally.  ;)

Still working on the planking ....

The bigger brass tubes will go over the existing ones an on it I will solder the reinforcement profiles and rudder attachments ...

The planking on the bow was glued and nailed on place ... nailheads will be sanded and invisible afterwards ...

I've done most of the lower planking during the last weeks. Now I have to fill-up all the imperfections with putty.

The nailheads will be sanded away with the putty ...

I do not intend to make a very smooth hull as the original looks very beaten up!!!

I went to the modelfair at Friedrichshafen in southern germany last weekend. I found some really small 1:700 geared 3V motors for the radars. They are used in the 1/87 RC-Cars ....  :-)
Very expensive at 24.50 Euro but I think smaller motors do not exist ...

With my oscillating sander I sanded all the putty to a smooth surface. Just a matter of a few minutes!! Nailheads are flat with the 1.2mm plywood.

Next step is to install the rudders and reinforcement bars for the rudders. Everything will be made out of brass profiles.
