@Mike. The picture on the trolley was made around 4pm ... no sun ...

I never built such a nice model by myself and without plans ... you'll learn things the more you build on a model ship.

Here a picture directly in the sun around noon! Big difference in color. And I must say its still lighter as on the picture! It is very difficult to find the right color! I have pictures all with different shades of blue and even some where she looks like she has a green color. It must be the light situation in Alaska that changes the color from day to day ....

Worked on the bow today ... I want to finish it asap ... the n I can put on the blue paint outside.

And to end the day I turned the foundation of the crane on my lathe. Looks alright for me.

Thats all for today ...  ok2

Today I finished the anchor winch ... the chain is too small and was used only for taking the pictures ...

Yes I have checked the angles ... I took the angles from different pictures but non was 100% clear to say the angle is exactly xy°.... please note that I build my CM without any drawings or measurements .... ok2

Two of the four crab tanks have a live water future! Its driven by a 12V waterpump that actually runs on 6V.
We installed a quick test setup in the kitchen to see if everything is working ... to my surprise everything worked as planned.

Anita my wife took the video ...

Still looking great, is it starting to feel a bit heavy by now ? The idea of pumping water into the model, then presumably overflowing across the deck a la the overflowing tanks of the CM is certainly a novel addition, if not a little unnerving ! The idea of introducing water from the outside into the model goes against the instincts  :embarrassed:

You're right Mike. A very special feature. Actually I had planned to include a big waterfilled tank in the front compartment. But I have not figured out how to do it in a safe way and so I decided to delete it from my plans. Weight is really no problem. 25kg minimum are needed to get the Cornelia Maria on the waterline. We'll see if everything works out as planned.

I think you might be surprised at the loss of stability if a larger tank were to be allowed to slop around. The Free Surface Effect can be considerable - I speak with many stressful experiences of loading full size ships when stability was tight, in the 'good old days'  >:-o

I have played with such an idea myself...

the solution to stop the swishing is,

on the inside of the tank, we have a lid maybe glued to some foam this will rise and fall with the amount of water....this lid will be fixed on a runner either side of the tank, which means it can only rise with the amount of water, the runners will be made in such a way that they can only work together...i.e when the boat is level the water can be put into the tank, when the boat is not level the runners wont work, ( prevents sloshing about )

in theory it works in my head...... {-) {-)  ........not got round to practical installation and trials yet though

Chris and Mike ... you're both right. I would have added sloshing boards to the inside of the tanks just like they have on some boats ...

Alternatively - install clear thin (.5mm) plastic baffles - egg crate/ice cube tray shape - interlaced fingers square pattern about 3/4 depth of the water with a reasonable number of holes - the holes allow the water to circulate, the baffles add resistance to the water moving about too much, like what they have in fluid road tankers - clean and thin so they 'disappear' in the water - just a thought if in full view, if not on show, just put the baffles in

On a full sized ship the double bottom ballast and fuel tanks all have inter-plates with lightening holes in them similar to the baffles you mention. Lets say there is a strong breeze when the model is on the water, all models naturally heel a bit to the wind and it is at this prolonged lying at an angle that allows the tank water to percolate through the baffles and across to the low side and increase the list. Bobbing about on the waves indeed helps cancel out the heeling effect.
Not saying for a moment that it is instant gloom and doom ! just to be aware.  :-))
