Where in Oz are you Mermod ?   How about approaching some of the many backpackers that infest...er VISIT the UK in droves.  Offer a reasonable reward to hand-carry the hull or fill it with clothes in their rucksack.  25 sound fair ?

Guys....I just logged onto Australia Post quick calculator ....all $ = AUD
20 kg from OZ to UK by sea consolidation  = 2 to 3 months
$90.25 basic cost
$9.60 insurance for $100.00
$3.70 signature confirmation
$103.55 total  %)

That seems more acceptable than $350.00  >>:-(  ...............Derek

I think the crux is speed of delivery.

However, I have found that some couriers in the UK can actually offer a cheaper service than most people imagine. Occasionally cheaper than Post Office (especially the PO faster services), always faster, and more secure.

This may also be the case in Australia.

BTW, if you think the UK PO is bad, try USPS.

Most people like that "new"smell when they open a product, not sure how the scent of backpacker would effect my sales  ;D

Thanks for that Derek, may have to go that way, I have tried to avoid Australia post after an incident with a box of foam aeroplane wings, they arrived with a fork lift sized hole right through the centre, they said I should have encased them in plywood although I'm not sure what sort of plywood is impervious to forklift attack! even the lady on the phone at Australia post didnt know.

I can just imagine the back packer at Australian customs "has any one asked you to carry anything onto the aircraft"? Back packer "err yes this ere boat hull", Customs "O.K. and whats in the boat"?, Backpacker "nothing just this pom in the mother land has bought it off a guy here and postage is so expensive they paid me to take it to the U.K." Australian customs then do a strip search of said back packer where upon they destroy the boat through reverse engineering checking for drugs.
I thought that people were smuggled into Australia in boats not boats smuggled out of Australia in people. {-) {-)

I have had Carburettors & parts like that shipped by FedEx, they had very good rates & as usual fast & nothing broken either. The company supplying me said that they got a 60% discount from FedEx. Company is Midel Pty.,in Sydney, hope this might help. Mick B.

Postage out of Aus seems to be pretty horrific, at least for larger articles. I was looking at a hull from Float a Boat in Melbourne a coule of years ago. In the end I got three hulls sent from England to New Zealand for less money than Aus Post wanted to send one from Melbourne. Kind of spoiled the idea of buying off the neighbours! Ian.

I used to have things shipped from sydney to auckland and would not think of using post service. courier services are cheaper and faster.
Ordered some machinery parts one morning and received them next day. that was exceptional.
TNT used to give fairly good service.
The longest holdups were always with NZ customs.
If the item is small or has a value of less than $200 not a problem, usually comes strait through.
