What was the original sail material? Cotton? Nylon?

The running rigging can be replaced with 25KG BS Dacron line.
The standing rigging could also use Dacron, but may need to be stronger 50-60kg.

Hi,
Even for my Marbleheads I use the Plastic covered wire fishing line for standing rigging.

It's tough but you will need to use Swages to hold it.

Coupled with turnbuckles mine usually last upwards of ten years.

So far as rigging cord is concerned (assuming you want to keep it looking original) your best bet is a product called “Chalk Line”, it’s manufactured by the company “Faithfull” and should be available from a good builders merchants – it has a product code: FAI 303. You can buy it online but only, it seems, in boxes of 12 at a cost of around £12.

It's about as near to the original as you'll find  :-))

I also make these stands for them if you're interested  :-)

Hope this helps

The sails are cotton it was bought from 'Lightfoots' in Rhyl so frighteningly ive had it 40 years, the deck and the green stripe around the deck is somewhat sun faded from being in my bedroom window. I have a stand my Dad made for it on a quiet night shift and apart from the paint and some fragile rigging its in good nick, i wouldnt sell it for the world i really fancy sailing it again so thanks for the tips i am really grateful.

You can use 100% cotton bedsheet/pillow case for the sails.

Pre-shrink the cotton, by soaking in cold water and allowing it to dry just hanging on the line. Do this a few times.
After you have made the sails, treat them with a cotton waterproofer, Nikwax do one. You can get this from outdoor shops, Blacks/Millets/Amazon/fleabay.
