Decision finally made
« on: March 30, 2013, 05:32:34 am »

After a lot of help from these forums, lots of reading and some long searching I have finally decided on my first kit  :-) .

I am going for the Mobile Marine Models Eldergarth, http://www.mobilemarinemodels.com/acatalog/Eldergarth.html

I am picking up the kit from MMM at the Coalville show on the 13th/14th -April. This should give me time to finish building and kitting out my small ( very ) workshop.

Really looking forward to getting stuck in and there is no doubt at all that I will have many many questions but I promise to search the forums first  ;)

I will post up a progress thread but don't expect the same level of excellence I have seen on here, most of you guys are true craftsmen  :-))

Anyhoo I am very chuffed to have at least made a decision at long last, and thanks again for all the advice so far.

Hi Ray

Don't search too hard or there will be no need for the forum  {-) and our hot air.
Carville is a good distance for you to travel so are you staying overnight? I might pop down itoo f I am not working that weekend.

Eldergarth is a nice tug and it became Shannon a few years ago http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=1646947

Great choice - I have an Eldergarth. They look great on the water - or sat on a stand proudly!  :-))

That's great to know Adam, thanks. Can I ask what props you use on yours  as I understand the kit does not come with Props, I have gone for the RG max 12v power option.

Thanks again

You can ask Brian at MMM or the guys at prop shop as they have
an arrangement to offer the best setup according to the running
gear system you buy.

Nice choice by the way.

Thanks for all the prop help and advice guys, I will give the propshop a look see.

Sorry about this but Here is another question that has come to mind, should I consider fitting a bow thruster during the build ? Or would that be a bridge too far  :o

Thanks again

TBH with you I fitted an ACTion P94 combined mixer esc and can turn her in her own length with ease, obviously if you fitted one docking when tug towing would be simpler BUT if you not doing any comps then the ans is no

Thanks Dave, just what I needed, I will go with a P94 only as I don't see me doing any comps anytime soon.

My personal thought would be if you can afford it now would be the best time to fit a bow thruster, less hassle if you come to need it down the road, but then I do like my gizmo's, the more the merrier. Mick B.
