Mermod's Damen Stan Tug 1606
« on: April 02, 2013, 09:20:29 am »

I have been asked by a friend to build him a Damen Stan Tug 1606 so after some gentle arm twisting here goes.
The model will be based on the Sydney based Wattle and will be built to a scale of 1:20 so will end up 830mm long.
As per usual I will make a plug for molding in fibreglass (cause I might need one myself)

After a full day on the computer I generated the necessary lines and started laser cutting.

And Bill, if you see the MDF cutout with your name on it there, don't panic I've got another sheet arriving tomorrow

G'day Phil,

I have no problem, just unfortunate I couldn't get down to see you when I was last home. I will see you when I get back later this month.
I've found some more parts for the Royalist, just waiting for etch work to be scaled up to 1/72 the master for the director has been made should be another 6 weeks before they are available

A bit of expanding foam to fill the void.

Now the real fun begins, some body filler and a bit of sanding.

Thanks for watching Mark, I got a chance to do a bit more today, a bit more sanding and a coat of primer but still a lot more work to go before molding.

Hi Jason, did you get my return PM?  think it might have gone somewhere else.
A bit more done today, the flat spots where the rubbing strips sit are glued on and the exhaust openings in place.

moving along fairly slowy but here's todays progress showing the curved transition between the two different bulwark heights and the shaping of the bow.
If the photos are too mundane please say so and I'll leave it longer between posts.

Bulwarks finally done (keep in mind it's only a plug so weight is not a problem)

Thanks longshanks, works a bit slow as its school holidays here at the moment, while the filler was drying I had to build my son a 1/72 Hurricane and a Komet for him to paint, all I can say is thank goodness for water based paints.
