Charging batteries in Series
« on: April 12, 2013, 04:46:29 pm »

Hi,

I know this has kind of been on before but if I had 2X  7.2V NiMH permanently joined in series ( +ve to -ve ) ie 14.4V for use and for charging would there be any problems ?

I intend buying a charger capable of charging up to 18V packs.   I know there is a potential problem with charging in series.

As an extra query could I charge SLA in series as well ?   I've only got the one at the mo.

Thanks as usual

No problem in series.
A7.2 pack is 6 cells in series
A 6v SLA is 3 cells in series
Parallel is the problem if the batteries
are not matched and one pack tries to charge
the lower charged pack.

I charge a pair of 6v sla's on a 12v charger (I wanted 12v and when I got to the shop 2x 6v was cheaper than 1x12v by a large amount. if they are used as a set it shouldnt cause problems, if they are used seperately and discharged different amounts it could be tricky.
