Setting up esc-again
« on: April 12, 2013, 06:11:39 pm »

I bought a pair of Hobby king 50A speed controllers  a while ago, along with 2 motors. Only just got round to trying them out. never used brushless before. When wired up then plugged in i get a series of beeps. When i operate the motors i can not get reverse. Then the motors start hunting and rev faster than they did on the stick command. (Rudder servo fine, no hunting there) Can any one tell me what is going on please.I have read through a previous thread, and that put me on to the download file instructions, but they haven't helped. Did get the impression that you didn't really need a card, (what is a card ?)and can be set up of the Tranny. Is this the case?

please help, haven't got enough hair left for problems like this!

Just tried again. The motor only works with the stick in reverse. Also it runs at high revs for a couple of seconds then drops. If I unplug the battery, then plug back in the same happens. pretty sure the battery is fine. tried 4.

Help

getting more hairless

Hi Sparkey,

The spec says it has reverse. But as most of it is double dutch to me, could say anything. At the moment its not doing what it did before, so cant confirm my statement about dropping in to reverse.

Hat modern technology.

%% Hi,Colin, did it say clockwise -anticlockwise which means you can alter rotation not what I thought was reverse, thanks to the kind help
of someone on this site I managed to programme the esc to my requirement.I think the thread is in "Brushless motors" if you want to read
it,it took some to work it out but it is a learning curve.Post note I lost my hair too(the little I had).Ray. {-) {-) {-)

Hi Colin, had similar trouble myself.
I set mine up on the Tx,
switch on Tx
hold throttle lever at max, full forwards.
then switch on esc
1 bleep
move throttle to full reverse
1 bleep
return stick to center.
after a few bleeps it should hopefully be set up.

yes they are Dave for instant reverse, but they will go into reverse after a few seconds delay with just 1 down movement.
mine do anyway.
mine are the 90 amp hobbyking boat type

Thanks for the replies.

Situation getting worse.
Managed to program the ESC of the Transmitter as adviced. Everytime  I do it I get different sounds, but it now seems to have settled down. No more hunting. No reverse either.
However I am still getting the problem that after a few moments the revs drop and I get no real control over speed.
Now this is the thing, I have two of these ESC, they are both doing the same thing!. Doesnt matter if the ESC's are wired to their own channel or via a Y-lead.

Now the curve ball. Tried my 9.6V battery, works perfectly, apart from no reverse. Just dont get it.
Can not get reverse to work. The only time i get reverse was when I got the hunting.

Any more clues out there from the collective??
