« on: April 24, 2013, 07:48:58 am »

Hello.
I have just received the following e-mail supposedly from PayPal.
Have reported it to PayPal and am awaiting reply.
Also contacted my bank for advice.
Be careful as the wording is very suspect.
Will post the reply from PayPal when received.
Mike.

I've had a few spoofs like this, I now always forward to spoof@paypal.co.uk, All I can say is NEVER, NEVER use their links. Always go to your paypal account. Paypal have always got back to me very quickly. Also had some for Ebay, just forward them to spoof@ebay.co.uk. 8) 8) 8)

The first giveaway is the 'Dear Customer' bit.

Whenever Paypal send an email it will start 'Dear your name' ('your name' will be your actual name ok2 )

Also as has been said, always open a browser window and login from there and never, ever, open a link in an email, even if you think it might be genuine.

I seen that a few times... annoyingly sometimes after I've purchased stuff from ebay, when a seller
uses 'third party' checkout software.   >:-o

I am sure we all get loads of spam email every day, even after hosting companies have filtered out the vast majority of it.  Almost all of it is malicious / fraudulent, sent out in huge numbers hoping to trick a few people.

Never open links on anything you are not 100% sure of its origin.  Even banners that look like a genuine organisation invariably have links that point to anonymous numerical IPC addresses.

Keep your PC protected with a good system such as Nortons 360.  Run scans frequently.  Do regular backups.  Avoid all ‘suspect’ sites, especially the ‘advertising’ banners on them.

Unfortunately owning a PC requires a little ‘road sense’ when driving.

hello

I do not use paypal because I have my account was hacked. When I opened my account a different name than mine appeared. I changed my credit card number for security. Now the bank gives me a number that is used only once. only for this payment. If I can not pay by PAYPAL I do not buy.
I do not open any email titled PAYPAL.

I see nothing wrong with using Paypal, providing you use some internet security savvy as basic self protection.  Many thousands use it every day.  Basically it is no different to using card payments online.  In fact it is probably safer as you are not giving your card details to multiple bona fide organisations.

Sorry

Agreed.   In fact, I don't use websites that Don't accept paypal.
If I get hacked, it will be Paypal that will have to sort it out.

if you hover your mouse over a link (do not click anything), somewhere in your browser it will show the true web link behind the text that is shown. (in firefox it is at the top of the page just above the place you type in the website name you want to go to.

I understand that you're sorry
I too am sorry to inform you that even if the system was designed secure it has flaws, like all systems.
And it's not because millions of people use it is totally secure.
Security is complete or the vendor or the customer.

I would not give you examples do not give ideas to malware.

And nothing tells you, when you make a Paypal transaction that the person at the end of the circuit is honest.

I know some English traders who no longer want paypal and they explained to me why a meal

 Hi.
Also had had some spoof mail from pay pal last year. Knew it was fake as it did not have their water mark of the
"Green shield" logo and tic on it.  Also it was addressed dear customer they do not use that term.   Reported it to them to deal
      with not had any since.
