beginers question.
« on: May 01, 2013, 01:49:28 pm »

Hi all, As subject says this is a total beginers question, I have got a wiring diagram that comes with the transmitter, reciever and servo ect' but what is worrying me is the 2 leads from the battery joining to a reciever with 3 pins. How is this done ?

If you look at all the connections to the receiver, servos as well you will see they have a red, black and yellow or white color cable. The red and black are the power supplies (Red - Positive, Black - Negative) and the other colour cable is the signal cable.

Inside the receiver all the black connections will be on a common track on the board as will the red for the positive. In this way you can feed your receiver voltage into any connection on the receiver and you can use BEC or Battery Eliminating Circuit speed controllers. They supply the power to the receiver as well as get the signal from it.

If your battery has a 3 way connector on it, only two of the pins will be used and the other is spare.

One more thing, be sure to feed the receiver power only from a battery pack or from a speed controller with a BEC circuit. If your speed controller has a BEC circuit do not use the external battery pack as well.

Do not be tempted either to connect your receiver direct to the model battery. It needs a regulated power supply around 5 or 6 volts. Plugging it into a 12V battery will turn it into a very short lived smoke generator!  :embarrassed:

Thanks Craig,  This is a steep learning curve for me but I guess we all have to learn somewhere.

2 battery leads go to speed controller - 2 heavy leads go from speed controller to motor - thin leads with small plug goes from speed controller to receiver. You didn't mention speed controller in your post, have you got one?
