Hi Capricorn,

You mentioned figures for the above boat. Italeri are launching figures for both the Elco and forth coming schnellboot. See link

Can't wait to see that go with geared up motors.  :o
I do hear the American are looking for a space shuttle replacement!  ::)

PS, not necessarily recommended method for drive system, I'm an experimenter, gearing up electric motors not considered efficient, but I assumed with the small propellers the motors could take it ::)

Thanks Longshanks, good to know, I'll keep my eye's open for them.  It's amazing the figures you can get these days, back when I used to build military miniatures tamiya was about the only decent thing available (that I knew of or could get anyway), now there are countless.  Cap

I'd like to know about any other color schemes used for these boats, for some reason I just don't want to paint it green, anyone know?

Most of the 80 foot Elco boats were used in the Pacific, and most of them were paintined in various shades of green-- they were, after all coastal forces, and spent most of their days moored at a base on some small jungle island, patrolling at night.

This might help:

squadron signals do a book on PT Boats and there is
a section showing coloured drawings of various schemes
that they were painted in well worth buying.

Does anyone plan to get Italeri's PT-109 version once its released later this year?

I was told by their export sales manager at the recent Shanghai Model Show its due out after the S-100 which is slated for September.

Quick question about something I saw on Ebay, see link.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Lionroar-1-35-Super-Detail-U-S-Navy-PT-boat-003_W0QQitemZ270272217994QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item270272217994&_trkparms=72%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

I have this kit in the wings now and although it is a great kit with fine moldings and some etched brass, was curious about this lot as I'd not run across it before. Any comments :-\.

I have just ordered it, it is a significant upgrade, after I saw this review I ordered it ( http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/reviews/vehicles/lionroar/las35003.html ). It doubled the cost of the kit but it has new scale brass props and since I intend to RC this boat I thought it would be great improvement on the weapons on the kit.  O0 I hope this is of some help.

Could only find this set on e-bay. Their own website had no mention of it that I could find.
One thing that we should think of is customs and excise or what ever you call your blood sucking tax departments.
If I were to purchase this up grade, £103. plus postage = £115.00 + duties =£136.00 PLUS VAT @25%  >>:-( = £171.00 Add to that any surcharges that the post office might feel that they have incurred. It apparently costs extra to hand a taxed package over the counter than it does an untaxed one <*<

In view of this if there is some one that knows of a place in Europe that sells these, please speak up.

I found a store in Germany that carries it, at least I think it is in Germany, here is the page for the kit from Loin Roar ( https://shop.modellmarine.de/product_info.php?products_id=362&language=en&osCsid=eae5565483c207cdf49c4a8e0ec592b9 ). They are listing in in Eruos so that is a good sign.

I hope this helps,

Be aware that the color callouts in the Italeri instructions are wrong for that camouflage measure.

Just a note on colour.

They did experiment with zebra stripe (black and white) on a couple of boats then returned to olive. It was in an old copy of marine modeling or model boats magazine. I had a photo copy of it years ago but with three house moves since it has disappeared.
