Hi all.
I am Ron from Surrey, UK and had been a member for a few years.
As the title says, I am rejoining Model Mayhem (Martin permitting
) after an absence of almost 4 years!!
The reason for my absence is my wife sadly died in July 2009, then a fire in my cave late 2010 and I totally lost all interest in boats (and most things in general).
This is not a post for sympathy as these things happen. I've been through all the emotions and now things are changing! (And, oh yes sir, things certainly are)!!!!
A new job late last year which I love after working for an F1 team for 12 years and a wonderful "new" woman in my life who takes a genuine interest in my hoppies and wants to attempt making one ( something simple obviously, not being disparaging but she will be a begginer)!! and which will also bring two lovely step daughters into the fold with my two boys. Not bad for an almost 59 year old phart!
I have these past few weeks/months got my interest back - hence this post/ re-membership - and I am now in the process of repairing and finishing of my boats that had got damaged/unfinished over these past few years through neglect.
There are a couple of Springers, (thanks to Craftysod for the hulls)! an Arab dhow, a scratch tig that got almost flattened but still a lot of damage after an air paint compressor fell on it. Ouch!! A couple of J class yachts to finish rigging, an Italeri Schnellboot and a few other builds.
I am also in the process of making my own steam engines as I have a lathe, mill and numerous other things in my cave. (I am a machinist by trade so have a little experience with machining).
I will post some of my "toys" here time permitting but hopefully it will be as soon as I can plus pics of my other models and interests.
I am also very keen to get the tug Resolve after seeing the wonderful and informative thread posted by Wallace.
One last thing for now.......
To top it all, we am getting married at the end of this year/early next and we are thinking of having our wedding on HMS Warrior.
If we do (and this is cost permitting), I will post pics of the event.
With kind regards,
From a happy bunny!!!!!
Ron.
