3 Stranded Cocks
« on: May 18, 2013, 09:50:40 pm »

Hi Guys

I came across a (1980?) photo a few days ago of three stranded Cocks hard on the Pembrokeshire coast; Heath Cock, Pea Cock &  Weather Cock. I remember they were Mersey tugs way back when I was a kid. Does anyone know what happened to cause that incident, and were they ever repaired? I was really surprised by the photo.

Cock tugs (Liverpool Screw towage) were taken over by The Alexandra Towing Com, and they were all renamed with names such as Collingwood the older steam tugs were all scrapped. In the late seventies the rest of the fleet was sold to Greek buyers and one tug towed the rest. I think the tow parted and they all washed up on the rocks, they were all scrapped in situ.

Thanks LB, it really was strange seeing the three of them laying on the rocks.

Where is the picture. I have seen it before, but the towing tug lost power and all three washed ashore.

Hi Guys

Any chance of an x marks the spot type pic off Google? Might make an addition to a day out in a part of Wales I don't get to very often. I assume there is a right of way or footpath.
