And now for something completely different - Tractors
« on: May 25, 2013, 04:59:09 pm »

Well they are boat related as they can be used to tow a real boat to water :)

Couple of the projects my father in law and myself have on the go

And one nearing completion.  I have been tasked with renewing the wiring loom.

Can anyone name the make and model of all 3 tractors?... the first 2 should be easy, but the 3rd not so as I don't think they were sold in the UK

The colours of the third one give it away. I think you could get one imported, but it would be quite dear...

The Grey one, second pic is a Massey Ferguson 35X.

The first pic looks like a Massey Harris Pony.
The green and yellow is John Deere colours, don't know the model-is it a 40 model?

And here's one I made earlier...

Tip: Take no notice of the colours lads, they come in all shades...

So E2V, Has yours got the solid rear wheels or the super racy Carlos Fandango 5-spokes?  {-)

I don't really know about such things, but isn't the grey one just a Ferguson, (i.e. Not Massey Ferguson)?

Also, comparing pics of engines, I can't see the dizzy or coil above the wheel so it's possibly a TEF or TVO? maybe...

Andy

p.s. The red one was a doddle as the name is on the tin-ware!  {-) {-) {-)

That's the preferred drink - The brand name was on the tin-ware, but I removed it so as not to spoil E2V's fun. I rubbed out the writing on the little notice board too  :}

i grew up in the 50s with 2x gray FERGYS  with the VANGUARD  petrol engine

my dad was a rabbit eradicater in NSW  for about 10 years before the mixomatosis put him out of business he had 2x furgeys and 60 dogs and  2x caravans he used to tow them with the furgeys on the open road at 13 miles an hour going from one sheep station to next to rid them of rabbits ( plowed in the burrows and set the dogs on  the escaped ones
we ate lots of rabbits over the years  ) the last fergy he had went on to his trawler for a winch , just drove it down the wharf took the wheels off and craned it onto the deck
and built a sorting tray over the motor and put winch drums on where the rear wheels used to be  , about 3 years later he craned it off ,put the wheels back on and it went back to farm work he replaced it with a more compact winch unit
great little tractors

The grey one is a TE-20 and I have one in my shed, which I've owned since 1972 although it was built in the early 50s. It is definitely a Ferguson if it was built before 1953 when Ferguson merged with Massey Harris. It is most certainly not a 35, as they weren't built until 1956 and looked quite different to the TE-20. Of course, my experience with Ferguson tractors is limited to those sold in Australia - other countries may have had different models.

The grey Fergies were tricky little beasts if you had a slasher on the 3 point linkage, driven from the power take off. The flywheel effect of the slasher meant the tractor would keep moving, even with the clutch depressed, which was a bit off-putting, particularly when you were close to the fence line at the end of a run. The was overcome in later model Fergusons with the introduction of a 2 stage clutch. The first stage of pedal travel  disengaged the PTO, and the second stage disengaged the transmission, making it much safer, but less interesting, to drive :-)

Peter.

The Fergie can either be a TEF or a TET ,as that is an inline diesel pump I see !!

You are right and wrong :) its actually a TE-A thats been converted to diesel power at some point in its career.  We are currently looking for the correct engine for it.

Ah , the chances of a Standard Vanguard engine !!
There was a large chicken farm outside Adelaide with 'hundreds' of SV cars being used as chicken sheds.
I remember the story and pictures..from the late 60s.. not much chance of our southern colleagues helping now I imagine.
Good luck with the builds , the Zetor looks great, except the JD colours, blue or brown I seem to remember, before the orange red of the early 60s.

I know but they are actually the correct colours for that model.

It's a water cooled engine designed to drive something via that belt pully.  Top 3 guesses are fridge, milking machine or sheep shearer. It's reminisent of a Wolsley.

Due to your current location, how about something like a Drott / Avance single cylinder hot bulb engine with evaporative cooling and a  flat belt output for driving any farm equipment, like milling or grinding food preparation.
