RMAS Robust
« on: October 17, 2012, 10:50:48 pm »

Think this post was zapped in most recent meltdown, so posting again. If I have duplicated please excuse on grounds of advanced senility.

Andy

Lachie Stewart has very generously opened up his extensive photo archive to other modellers if I can keep up with the slightly tedious and time consuming task of scanning. First subject is the the Admiralty Tug RMAS Robust. Lachie worked for many years in Port Glasgow and took the opportunity to photograph, in great detail, very many ships. This level of detail may not be everyone's cup of tea but to someone contemplating a build I think this information source will be invaluable. First 50 or so pictures.

Next batch from FIRST album. I've just discovered that there are TWO  :o

Should I keep posting with included images or just provide a link to the album and notify when updates are available?

In any case I will open up another thread for album 2 when I reach it.

For those that may wonder what the heavy panama rollers are set in the aft deck bulwark starboard aft is for, it is the lead for a 100t salvage 6 sheave block and tackle set. the forward block shakled onto the accomodation bulwark to starboard of the towing winch house, the tackle led off round the fixed roller set at 45deg by the panama lead and connected onto a towing wire from the towing winch. To my knowledge it was never used in anger.

Hi Andy
I really enjoyed this thread and I was just wondering if you could do another based on Lachie's collections?

Dave

Actually I have only scanned in about half the photographs of the Robust. My family has been staying here over Christmas but I'll be home alone soon and will try to finish the Robust. I'll also check with Lachie about getting another album. He worked near the Ferguson yard in Port Glasgow and spent his latter day lunchtimes photographing vessels under construction there. His previous day lunchtimes were spent on training runs for his career as an international distance runner.
