The bridge was strictly a pedestrian walkway from the City centre to Darling Harbour....millions of tourists would have walked the bridge

in a year..........now the Dingbats who control Sydney decreed she should be permanently opened

Martin.....I had acknowledged to our Geoff in Queensland, that the Port of Dampier was the answer to the question & was the original location shot for an HMAS Anzac Class Frigate being refuelled

......unfortunately there was no Australian Naval Coronial Investigation into the incident

...however the photographic evidence is not consistent with the US/Australian news release.............

Just butting in

Derek, the Glebe Island Bridge was closed to all traffic, including pedestrians, in 1995, but the Pyrmont Bridge, also of the swing variety, remains open to pedestrians, vehicular traffic having been diverted in 1981. The bridge is opened regularly for demonstration purposes. I have walked it many times, and have driven over it on numerous occasions back in the 60s and 70s. The now defunct Sydney Monorail also used the Pyrmont Bridge.
