It closed in June 2013, the photo was taken in November 2009. I thought it was great, but many Sydneysiders did not like it at all. During my coach driving days we would take school groups from our area on excursions to Sydney, and a ride on the Monorail was nearly always included. The kids loved it, as did the adults  :-) . I was sorry to see it go.

Thanks Peter.......it is some 19 years since we were at Darling Harbour....we drove in from the western side and parked at the Novotel 

I am pretty sure that the swing bridge was open for pedestrian traffic & the Monorail was functioning, however sore & tired feet won over & we caught a water taxi launch from Darling harbour out & under the Bridge to a disembarkment point near the Sydney Water Police base....and then dinner in one of those old huge converted sandstone & timber multi story storage warehouse buildings

Best of all was the water taxi skipper gave me his card & advised he could be back  in 15 minutes when called...true to his word, after our dinner & more walking he collected two weary travellers & we were back at the Novotel in 10 minutes...........I think the cost each way was $10.00...........super value riding on your own personal taxi launch under our Coat Hanger  O0

The first Lighthouse on Bidston Hill was built in 1771, further from the body of water it lit than any other lighthouse in the world, ever. The octagonal tower housed a massive parabolic reflector, twelve feet in diameter, developed at the Bidston Signals Station by William Hutchinson, Liverpool Harbour Master and one-time privateer.

Yes, I've been fortunate in my globe trotting. Apprenticed in the Royal Air Force in 1962 I travelled extensively. Pretty much all the east coast of GB, Hong Kong, Gan, Singapore, Malaya, Aden. Then in later years North America and most of Europe. Then downunder a lot of time in NZ, Bali etc. It's been a good life :-))

Last week with the three masts Dunedin I was thinking about this city.  Then as I was there sometime I didn't recognized the place ... 


Today I watched on google map - oups it's Dunedin !!
