Nearly got it Ned.  It is the seaplane base, South Terminal at Vancouver Airport. The model and its companion are made from drinks cans from the terminal litter bins. Probably Molsom's and Coors!
Langara is 2 hours flying from Vancouver.

I think the registration letters on the 'aircraft' were a hint - IIRC, YVR is the ICAO identifier for Vancouver, B.C. But, once again I was too late to answer. - Tom
