Colin guessed correctly the engines of the paddle tug Clyde at Renfrew Ferry Green where I played as a wee bouy. Hope it was maritime related enough Martin?  ok2

The lighthouse is the South Foreland I believe. The first to be lit by electricity.

Do I get a go now or does mayhem still reign?

Correct!  Great place Sherringham, love it.... wouldn't want to live there... not until I've retired anyway!

I attended a club 'do' here in Sussex today and a chap was admiring my boats when he said, 'My wife and I have just come back from Sheringham where there is a wonderful boating lake'. So I said , 'Funny you should say that!'  :}

 I think Souter lighthouse near South Shields, Tyneside was the first electric lighthouse...

According to the National Trust who maintain the South Foreland, it was the first lamp to be lit by electricity?

well its not the one that was moved back from the cliff edge, as that was belle tout.
It is the one just up the road from (as in nearest toilets to) the underground tunnels recently opened to the public under the cliffs (about a 10 minute walk so I am told- its about 1/2  hours walk from the visitor centre where you get the tickets).
and the light was lit once again for the Queens diamond Jubilee.
