Evening Gentlemen,

Can anyone help with a little information.

I am looking to purchase a JJC steam sound module for the Mountfleet CRUISER Tug I have just started.

Although the model will have electric power I want it to sound like it has a steam engine. Can anyone tell me if the original (before conversion to diesel) had a reciprocating or turbine engine? and, if reciprocating, was it double or triple expansion???

She had a triple expansion engine which was almost silent unless you were onboard, this was and is the case with all steam powered vessels.

Usually only hear the feed pump clanking on most steam engines.
As previously said, almost silent.

P.S. maybe one day I will be able to fit the real thing, once I can persuade SWMBO to stop wasting money on frippery's like food,heating, clothing etc.

To help satisfy your query do not wast your time and money. Steam recip engines run quite, they do not make any sound except for a low faint rumble from bearings. I have steam tugs in action and all you hear is the prop turning the water and the whoosh of hot gases coming out of the funnel when a extra burner is put on. I served on a steam recip vessel and I used to frequently go down to the engine room and chat to the engineer standing alongside the engines. We could speak normally with no ear defenders, such a difference from a diesel boat. The only other thing you will hear is the regular thump of a feed pump every 3 secs or so, especially if it was a wears feed pump.
