Hello,
I was five years old, having been bombed out in London, moved to Lancashire, to the village with the largest
USAF airport in Europe,  Burtonwood.
Grew up with the skies above me full of fighters and bombers and the streets full of Military personnel.
The War lasted a long, long Time.

Hi regiment, only half your age in 1944 but lived in Kent, remember lots of activity both in the air, and on the railway (SR) that ran beside the school. Pretty sure I remember all the family sitting around the radio later in the day waiting for news.

Mother was in Mediterranean Fleet HQ in Alexandria, a Leading Wren in the Victualing Department. My Dad was a dispatch rider in the RAF and based at RAF Abukia, somewhere in Egypt, and my Uncle was at RAF Heany, Bullawayo, Rhodesia, an Empire Flying School. He had a most important job, he was an Oleo leg expert responsible for undercarriage repair and maintainance. I arrived about 11 years later.
Info from family rcords.
