24 years to build...that is dedication..saying that it is around 2hrs ish a day modelling. Enough for anybody on that scale. Lovely dedication too. Really enjoyed reading and looking at your wonderful model.

The cost of £57,748 in 1750's is today worth...£7,090,000.00 using retail price index. £96,600,000.00 if calculated using average earnings. I wonder how much Victory would really cost to make from scratch today?

I bet oak is much more expensive in real/adjusted terms.
Is there a Victory website, where someone has worked out the sums.
If you know the tonnage of oak, and the milage of rope, yardage of sail, you could hazard a ballpark figure for materials (ex armaments).
If you know how long the build took, and knew how many men worked on her (total) you could guestimate the average number of men and man/hours. Then perhaps calculate the daily wage for a 21st century artisan and extrapolate labour.

Am I right in thinking that there might be Admiralty records with a breakdown of costs for the original build?

Too cool not to share!

Since I was a kid I have always loved anything to do with the Lone Ranger. While looking at the trailer today for the upcoming movie I found out that his real name was Reid  in the original novel, earlier movies added a first name, John. This movie gave him an additional initial "W" same as mine ,but what really freaked me out was that on the back of the badge he wore in honor of his father, another Texas Ranger who is now dead,it is inscribed  JWR the same as my dad who was Joseph.
By coincidence the diorama that I am working on now is an Old West Theme Park.I guess that I had better name it the John W. Reid theme park after my father, me and the Lone Ranger.
