Welcome
« on: June 22, 2013, 11:19:55 pm »

Hi.  This is Peter Lewin, one time owner of Maritime Models Greenwich.  I have just joined the site and wanted to say hello to all those who used the shop and with whom I had such good times. :-)

Many thanks for the contact.  I guess one of my favourites would have to be the Badger.  Developed by me and produced and kitted by Ron Dean.  It was a very pretty boat, sailed well and could be used for steam or electric.  There was also a special fittings set with brass and etchings.
However I would also have to include HMS Victory that has always be an emotive inspiration in vessels of "wood and string" !!

Hi Neil
Many thanks.  I am afraid I have not done any modelling in the real sense since leaving the shop.  I have stored some things that I plan to get around to at some time and I think that time may be fast approaching.

Maritime Models? - That's a blast from the past! You sold me a Vibrosaw ca. 33 years ago when I was on a visit to London and it's still going strong. They don't make 'em like that now.

I remember going in there as a kid.... we had just been to see the Cutty Sark and I wanted one of your cutty sark models.  Being only about 7 or 8 at the time my parents said no, as it would be too difficult for me.
I do have one now (age 41)

Thanks for the kind messages of welcome.   BarryM I am surprised the Vibrosaw is not available now.  I might unearth oneI think when it come to pack up the house. To  Essex2visuvesi, well at least you got there.  Strangely enough I think we sold more kits of HMS Victory than Cutty Sark.  As a small piece of history, we celebrated our first 21 years on board Cutty Sark with a drink with the Commander.

Can I add another welcome to the pot and my thanks for getting me and many others into this hobby. I lived in Brockley and it was almost mandatory to get down to Greenwich and the shop on a Saturday, once I found out that if you paid your sub as a Friend of the NMM you could park in the staff carpark :-))
