XT60 connections and extra speed ???
« on: July 07, 2013, 07:35:32 pm »

Hi,

I've just rewired my batteries with XT60 connectors (used to be tamyia) and my Perkassa seems to be going a lot quicker than it used to.  Is it the connections ?  or the fairly new batteries wearing in or ????

Also my turbo700 motor is getting rather hot despite the water cooling, this is also new.  I have started using a WD Lubricant with PTFE to oil/top-up my propshaft which originally, about 30 yrs ago !!, was greased with graphite grease.

Any thoughts most welcome

Probably allowing more Amps through.     :}

The Tamya connectors dont allow a lot of Amps through them and get hot thus creating resistance, think of the scenario of this.....Which hose will allow more water through a 1/2 in diam or a 2inch diameter....yes correct the 2 inch one.....same goes for your connector...........Used them for years  O0 O0 O0 O0 O0 O0

I like the XT60 connector, but they can be a little tight fitting if you mix and match from different sources, so sometimes a little light sanding is required

XT60 are popular with the Fly boys because they are tight and do not come apart in flight.
There's also  XT90, Deans, EC3, EC5, HTX and gold 'bullet' connectors.

How hot should my motor get ???  how hot is hot ??   It was fine before the connection upgrade and of course winter water temperatures but now ........Water jacket is hot, a bit too hot to keep my hand on it so i would suggest too hot ???     solutions ?  smaller  prop ?   37" Perkassa, Graupner 700b Turbo 12V running on 14.4V and an X45 prop.

Hi crock, are you sure the water-jacket is working, (can you see water coming out of the overflow)?
I used to run mine on that set-up but with a 2 blade x type racing prop.
The motor didn,t get that hot.
I have since changed to a brushless set-up, more speed + longer running time.

The set-up I now use if you want to know that is, is a Supo A2814/6T 1400kv
brushless motor, running on 8.4v Nimh, It would be too quick on 14.4v
For me that is {-)

If you can't touch the motor with a finger for a few seconds, it's too hot.
