Classic TV Sci-Fi series - Blake's 7
« on: July 22, 2013, 08:06:05 am »

Got the Blake's 7 DVD box set for my birthday last week
Have to say, if you can see past the dodgy special effects and Scenery, it's a rather compelling show.
I remember watching this as a kid back in the 70's and loved it then completely forgot about it until I happened to see the box set for sale in a shop in Finland a few weeks back.
Anyone else remember the show?

Neil, you should keep an eye out for it..... It's quite a good show

I have all the Dr who Episodes up to Colin Baker (didn't like the Doctors after that)

O yes! I used to slobber in equal measure over Jenna and Servalan..................but those wonky sets made Dr Who look really cool while the last episode was so ridiculous it rather spoiled the previous 51.
My most recent dose of TV nostalgia was a re-run of "I Claudius". Wonderful stuff.

Main recollections were "Bing bong, Avon calling", and the fact that after the first series Blakes 7 was lacking Blake and never quite managed 7.I suppose it was just good look that they never ran across the Dr Who production team in the quarry that was most planets.  They were way early for The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy wandering through it.
I still look back fondly on Lexx, even if it was Canadian.

Yep Got the Original VHS  release from the 90's and the Blake 7 companion book..

Rumours about that they are going to re do the series , a bit like they did with the Prisoner....Noooooooo (Although the new prisoner was sort of ok in its own right)

If they do a Battlestar Galactica with it, I shall be very happy. That was a vast improvement on the original, Flying motorcycles, blokes dressed up as robot dogs, best forgotten :embarrassed: replaced with the far superior offering of the last few years.

I think I saw at least some of Blake's 7. They had the grumpy transparent box, right?

I do wonder if it's Orac that runs the MBM servers at times :D

You might be interested to know that the adventures of Blake's 7 continue on audio book available from big finish.com. They do a variety of audio books for many old Sci-fi TV series that were not continued including all the previous Doctor Who incarnations, Sherlock Holmes and Dark Skies. I listen to them on my long car journeys between work and home. :-))

Thanks for that, I'll look into those audio books. I like to listen to them when I fly.

BSG , i liked the original toasters (cyclons) and the ships funnily enough, quality of the new version is definitly 'spot on', I watched Blake 7 and was not impressed with the imperial ships, really cheap - no wonder the liberator took them out so easily. {-)
