decking
« on: August 17, 2013, 10:51:54 am »

Hi all
I am just about to start laying my planking on the deck of my King George v. The plan I have is a basic one and shows the planking going up to the edge, so it is finishing with a tapper. Not sure about this, was wondering whether to lay a edging around the outside first. The planks are 3mm wide also I see that some people place a wide strip around the gun turrets and super structure etc and plank up to this but I can find no close up pictures of the kgv to see if this was the case on this ship. Hope this makes sense, not always easy to put into words.
Any thoughts would be welcome thanks in advance

As always kind regards Tony

Tony....on a vessel of this scale ...plank "joggling" would have been apparent .....yes this is an external curved plank with rebates cut to accept the tapered deck planks.....Derek
This is a complex task if you want to get it to scale  :-))
You must read more about KG V class battleships..........Derek

And depending on which ship and when the deck may have been painted. Bleached teak is very light and was easily visible to aircraft.

During the war all British capital ships had their wooden decks painted medium grey.
