Halifax bank problem
« on: August 13, 2013, 09:26:08 pm »

There's something very odd going on. When I click on my favourites for the bank site, I get the usual log-in page. But when I click on the "log in" button, instead of going to the password page, the screen goes to a google search result showing several Halifax pages, some of which look pretty dodgy. Does this mean someone has hacked the log-in button? Is anyone else having this problem? If I can't log in tomorrow I'm off down the local branch to try to find out what's going on.

I would report this immediately to Halifax...............I am a member of that bank and would report anything like that immediately via phone, as I don't bank on line for those reasons alone.

Personally I would not use the favourites option, I always type in the address. :-))

If its your favourite that sends you to the wrong place (the log in page might not be "quite" right), you need to thoroughly disinfect your system.  It is unlikely to be at the Halifax end of things.  If it was, they would be swamped with complaints and it would probably have made at least the techie press. If you need to access your account, type the URL manually after getting rid of the existing favourite, save the result (if it gives the right answer) and see if the new favourite works as expected.
A good coat of looking at by Malwarebytes and perhaps a few similar would not come amiss.
Has your default search engine been changed?  There are some otherwise legitimate programs that persist in trying to do this either on initial installation or on a frequent update (Adobe, you know who that might be).
