My first boat build - "Neptune" Cabin Cruiser
« on: August 10, 2013, 10:00:40 am »

Being a builder of RC Aircraft for quite a few years, I was keen to check out a model boat.

A friend suggested I download the plans for the Keil Kraft Neptune and scale them up.

I downloaded the plans (http://eezebilt.hobby-site.com/index.html) and took them to a photocopy shop. The scaling was not perfect; instead of 150% got about 140% and the X & Y axes scaling was a little different
Used 2 mm wherever the plans said 1/32 or 1/16" and 4 mm wherever they said 3/32 or 1/8".

Made the Shaft out of a bicycle spoke, used a U Coupling, used an Aluminum tube with 2 nylon bushes as the Stuffing Tube.

Made the Rudder from a piece of Hardwood, duly Sand Sealed and painted. Another bit of spoke formed the Rudder Shaft, and I used a PVC tube for the Rudder Tube.

I'm having a problem with the picture file sizes. I am using Irfan View, and on other forums it resizes the pictures automatically, but it's not happening here  {:-{ {:-{

Your pictures are showing OK at this end.

If you use  "Preview"  before posting you will be able to remove the  SIZE instructions in brackets as seen above.

Cheers

Ready for the water!Bathtub test - no visible leaks, slight list to the right (wonder why) corrected by moving the battery slightly to the leftOverpowered, for sure, with that 500 speed brushed. Held it down firmly (like, braked) and applied full throttle for a minute. Used about 400 mAH and the motor got hot enough to smoke, which is bad for my health  %)

Looking really good there, nothing like a boats maiden voyage and hoping she doesn't sink, catch fire etc.

The list is slightly too much weight that side, the servo, ESC will just cause it to tilt ever so slightly, as you have moved the heavier battery over it should compensate, just watch for the battery sliding back as the list will return and if you're turning you could get some water in.

Thanks Ken, and Eddie.

Oh well, I'll just post a link to the remaining videos.

Eddie, the list was settled by moving the battery around - the new videos show this.

I use velcro to keep the battery moving around. Works fine; use it in my planes, where the G forces are much higher
