Great to have you back on here Neil - I'm finding this build fascinating and, who knows, I might be inspired enough to try my hand at moulding, sooner rather than later.

Just keep it coming... :-))

finally got down to somwe casting, and not in my usual style of looks ok, will be ok, I actually invested in a small set of digital scales that cost me 7 quid from asda. I also invested in a couple of jugs which I  marked A and B for the two resins and plenty of margarine, cream cheese and other assortment of little mixing pouring pots.
I was fed up of not mixing the exact amounts of each, giving rubbery or bubbly castings because of the imbalance of resin to hardener that I was judging by eye...........

and guess, what.............the mixes went great.

I am also using a new resin ( polyurethane none brittle) from another company and it is far less viscous that the stuff I was using from CFS and actually pours very well.........almost like water up until it goes off..........and hopefully this will help when I pour the split moulds with the large and small thin parts.

It also sets white rather than cream in colour.

Now then...............I have just pulled the first castings out of the  moulds........and was very very pleased with how my new resin has cast..........the replication of the small detail that I am these days capable of working at 1:43 scale is excellent.........might not please some, but I am happy with the outcome........so onwards and upwards and will now knuckle down to making the three sets needed for me and my friends, who are needing them.

Neil sent some photos to me this morning of his Caledonian MacBrayne ferry that he was /is still building, albeit slowly at the moment.

However it took a momentous step forward yesterday when, whilst having some radio gear checked out in Cheshire, he took the hull of the boat to New Brighton and gave it a "tank Test" as he called it in the Model yacht lake on New Brighton promenade, as it is too big to fit in his bath.

He thought that those who had been watching the build in the past might like to see it taking to it's natural element after so long. And not a leak in site, but plenty of ballast needed.

I think he was exuberant and has given him the enthusiasm to overcome his lethargy and crack on with the model.

Thanks for posting the pics Jim, it's great to see her on the water, even without the upperworks, vehicles etc..

Hope to see it in it's completed form sometime in the not-too-distant future. :-)

Ray.

Where does it say that, Derek.

That is amazing. I will tell him next time I speak with him.

Firstly, it amazes me that you can miss a topic despite being a member for nearly three years!

Secondly, while reading it and being inspired by the good step by step tutorial on GRP moulds and moulding, it was a roller coaster of a ride as first you left because someone was a daft biffer and then luckily for us you came back and showed us your excellent ship taking to the water  :-)) She looks lovely and cannot wait to see further progress shots.

Re tidiness, the sawdust and odds and sods help absorb spillage of tea dna resin I find :O)

How is your daughter doing at College? I hope all is well.
