well, spent nearly 5 hours last night constructing the rear ramp for the  Jupiter......and then got a text this morning from my Mentor Andrew...........to say that the Jupiter ramp has a different configuration to the Saturn which I based the ramp on................I do wish these ship builders would make em all the same............well at least the new ramp will be an easier one to build, lol

even the Juno and the Jupiter are different in that the Jupiter has some "filigree" running across the width of the ramp, whilst the Juno doesn't.............so I will this time construct the ramp without the "filigree" and mould that plate separately so that it can glued on afterwards.

and now looking more closely at the photos of Jupiter I realise that I am going to have to cut a recess into the hull at the stern so that the brackets and plate will sit into..............oh well.........that's scratch building for you, lol

What an amazing amount of detail to tackle, the biggest modeling job I've ever seen ...........

Afternoon Neil........ ok2

A colleague 30 years ago built a 1:48 model of the Australian Iron Duke [RoRo] with a Naviere stern ramp.....

Beautifully detailed ramp but it did not have sufficient weight of mass to lower on the scale number of wire falls after it was pushed out over centre

Not sure if you have completed some ballast calcs...& I understand lead sheet in the vertical plane does not aid for stability....but if the ramp is to function.....you may need to consider adding mass to it

Keep us posted with pics of the build  :-)).......Derek

and thanks for the comments tim....  think I am getting rid of the most detail first and then the rest is plain sailing. lol.

so, onwards and upwards.............4 more hours tonight and the revamped ramp is almost ready, just the top bracket pivots to put on once I have made the top flaps to the ramp, and will start these tonight, finishing them off tomorrow............all this will then be put into rtv rubber moulds to take mouldings off.............then onto the side port/starboard ramps............will just make one of those which can then be moulded for both sides.

the "filigree" was made using my trusty compass cutter......a great little asset for the workshop.

and todays offerings are the top ramp flaps which are a bridging ramp from main to the harbour ramps...........these will be hinged to the top of the ramps.......the thinner one is for the port and starboard side ramps........and only one thinner flap fits at the end of the row of five flaps on the wider ramp......which I'll be making next.

Unfortunately I couldn't get down to see her arrive. :((

I followed her progress online as she made her way from Germany over the last four days. For those wanting to see some pictures, the forum on Ships of Calmac is a good place to look. :-))

She'll be lying at Greenock for some time as the port infrastructure for her is not finished yet. I hope to pop down on my return from assignment and have a look myself. She's huge by all accounts. I must say I like the paintwork.......it's a talking point. :} Not everyone likes the paint finish though.

finally got the two ramps ready for moulding and will make the mould boxes from Lego this afternoon.

Have shortened the hinge brackets to fit and added the brackets for the hydraulic rams which will all be moulded onto the ramp.

just a slight amount of sanding smooth before they go into the moulds though.

Hi Neil

That looks fantastic! Brilliant work. :-))

All going well over in Europe, now in Prague in the Czech Republic. As usual very long days but that's what happens when we work abroad. :-)

Need to scoot as meeting the rest of the team for dinner....

Regards
