I've not seen the whole movie but I've watched lots of chunks - and it has that standard annoying feature of all American action films - everything happens at just arms length - the ships and the subs can almost touch each other during the action. No standing off a few thousand yards and firing, it's all close up - and yes, the turning circle of the destroyer is impressive!. I guess a 5-minute torpedo run would sort of kill the intensity, but it's just like Godzilla, where Apache helicopters are in so close for no reason that the monster can swat them.
I also don't like the cgi - there's something really fake about it - almost like an oil painting - can't quite put my finger on it - I guess the whole film is a cgi technology demonstrator - just like the Polar Express.
