Ah falling foul....... %) %)
I recently fell foul....shades of grey id say....in "MY" thread somebody wanted to sell me a boat not what i asked for...i merly pointed out he was expensive..... I got the Huge rules imploded in my post...apparently i was flaming war and scuppering his sale....i mean really !!!! if i had gone on his thread then id accept that ruling...but he came to my thread  >:-o

No as it was a question on your post and outside the sales thread IMHOP then I can't see the problem with that but would need to see the thread.. 8)

Mayhem is a fairly unique 'snug' on the internet, some people don't get it straight away.....

It's no fun having to deal with arguments because sales go wrong hence the rules which experience has taught us ....  {:-{

( grammar?)

One thing that is forgotten in all this, is,

What is the intent of the statement/rule. O0 O0 O0

Whilst you may be able to argue there is some ambiguity in wording/meaning, spelling etc, what is the intent.

Parallel sales have caused ill feeling and arguments in the past.
We had people make an offer for an item for sale on Mayhem, only to get gazumped on ebay. Unhappiness results.
Hence the rule.

Many members have put an item up for sale on Mayhem first, to give fellow members first chance of buying. If they cannot get the sale on here, they have then remove the item from the Mayhem sales board and then put the on item on ebay.

The sad thing about all of this is the explosion of self-righteous indignation which occurred when the would-be seller was told of his transgression. Not "Oops! Sorry! I never realised". Just a nasty, badly-spelled and ill-tempered rant which said essentially that everybody and everything was wrong except him.
This sort of attitude is sadly more prevalent these days - see the thread about dangerous cyclists.
I've been on the receiving end of it when asking a youth to put out his cigarette on the top deck of a bus; when braking sharply to avoid running over a dog (which should have been on a lead - much like its owner) and even when leaving a straightforward message on our answering machine advising callers that we had sold the business (quite what prompted the caller to tell me I was a foxtrot whisky is beyond me).
I don't know what the cause of this is and even less what the answer might be. To Darren I would say that rules are not made as a personal slight to you. Funnily enough you aren't actually that important in the greater scheme of things. Next time you feel like lashing out at someone or something just stop and ask yourself why - and also what sort of a berk you're going to look. There are four thousand people here who have pretty much that sort of impression of you already. Well done, you.

Some appalling posts in this thread. Gloating over a person being banned is in poor taste.
All this could have been sorted out by a swift pm from a moderator.
Good luck to you Darren, I hope you sell your boat soon and you and your intended enjoy your wedding.

You speak for yourself - not the rest of us. Darran, I hope everything goes well.
BTW: You should have run the dog over, breaking heavily in a situation like that could have caused a serious accident in which humans could have been injured.

I believe I am a loud to have a freedom of speech ...
I am mindful that Darren has been banned and can't reply, so agree that some of the posts above are a bit harsh.
But no, none of us has freedom of speech here. Not here nor on most other forums. This and they are mainly owned and run by private individuals (Martin in this case) who take all the risks and responsibility. You and all of us are in his sitting room and we abide by his codes of conduct or get shown the door.
I don't agree with certain things on various forums, but if a (polite) request that they be changed is unsuccessful it's a case of live with it or walk away.

Ultimately neither being in a hurry or ignorance/not understanding the rules is an excuse to break the rules without dispensation, as any policeman pulling you for speeding will make clear.

It seems a shame that some cannot or will not abide  by the rules.
As TT has said in the past we  had parallel sales on eBay and on here.
An offer was accepted on here then the eBay price shot up so seller sold on eBay.
This led to a lot of bad feeling so the rule was imposed.
Some members have been here a long time and have seen many of these "spats" which soon gain momentum when any member who has fell foul of the rules have to "have their say" in support of the original poster.
They get very boring, duplicated posts and sometimes other members getting banned as they get rather excited.
The role of the Moderator is to ensure that the Forum is run in the way that Martin (The Site Owner) wants.
If in doubt read ALL the rules of the Forum that is what they are there for.
Martin is the final arbiter and any decision can be appealed to him personally but be aware that MOST decisions are discussed with Martin and the Mods beforehand.

none of us have the right to be on this site,
its martins and he makes the rules simple.
if you dont like martins rules then you do have the right to not to come here any more.
we all like and love this site with martins blessing
the rule is ok coz its applyed to every one and all the time.
which part of this do members not understand.
                              Regards Howard.

Yeah Howard! The Forum is my 'living room', so to speak!  ;D

NB: The mods are a lot like Swans behind the scenes ... and are only on a small retainer of $65,000 per annum.  O0
