Project Eleven - HMS X1
« on: August 18, 2013, 03:42:11 pm »

Hi everyone

My Dad has been teasing many members of not only Wicksteed Park MBC but quite a few Mayhemers about his next project! He still wants it to remain 'secret-ish' for the moment so he asked me to show some pictures of the build so far... he only started to cut the wood out today! The model name will not be mentioned yet, some of you might want to guess what her name is or even what type of vessel she is meant to be, I know I'm being a bit cryptic but someone might be able to work it out with some of the pictures- I have even included a picture of part of the plans to 'help you'!  {-)

So can you tell what it is yet?

The first of the wooden parts being glued together on a nice flat surface.

'Sides' going together temporarily.

The world's narrowest and longest 'battery tray!!!- Well that's what it looks like to me!

The 'structure' glued together for the moment!!!  :-))

Names on a post card, anyone who guesses correctly will get a pint of beer sent through the post!!!  {-) ok2
Obviously I'll be asking a moderator to move it into the right section when the name is revealed.
More pictures and info as we go along... happy guessing. :-))

That sticky up bit on the plans looks like a "Golf Ball" Tee.?

You are correct Ned.  :-))

It is a optical range finder, but it does go up and down like a periscope too.

I'll give another clue to help...

The model will be 7.5ft long, 9.5 inches wide, and has two props...

Keep those guesses coming... :-))

Dad is making the pointy bits soon once he's made the roundy parts, there are twenty to make!
He's going to go mad measuring, cutting and gluing those on!

The proportions would suggest to me a destroyer or early cruiser.  Perhaps something along the lines of H.M.S. Velox.

Length to beam ratio is very close to a narrow boat.
I would not like to go far out of the dock on something
like that especially if it has all the top hamper of range
finders.
Is it some sort of spotter vessel to sit inshore on the putty
and signal back to a big gun vessel?
The again perhaps not.
