I appreciate that a yacht has a variety of sails in her lockers, nominal numbers 0 through to the depth of the owners pocket, BUT, on model yachts (esp the Dragon Im buying) we seem to have A B and C rigs.
Looking at the pictures the rigs seem to fall, from A to C, in aspect ratio. I assume, but cant tell, that the area of canvas also falls so that she sails in stronger wind.
Firstly, is this true?
Secondly, why the change in rig? Why not simply hank on a smaller sail (like reefing or hanking on storm sails).
I see the different rigs on the Dragons arent terribly expensive, but I cant see the point either. when one could simply cut new sails (esp as they are flat sails).
