Deans Marine 1/100 scale Torbruk
« on: September 17, 2013, 04:42:43 pm »

I have just been going through some old pictures and found some of this model. The model was built many years ago. I always thought this model looked very smart but you do not see many about. More pictures to follow.

hi.
RE:thought this model looked very smart but you do not see many about  At 1:96 with a hull length of 22.5in and 3.75in beam its quite small and not going to be much of a sea boat. Used to be gadaffis private gin palce and now both he and the ship have been scrapped.

a great set of delicate models Stan! Bet you get a lot of damage moving them around. You must have a very delicate touch with the feather duster also!

Not sure about model plans but Vosper Thornycroft (BAE) archieves may have original plans.
I have some of their drawings of the Mk.3 corvettes that they built for the Nigerian Navy.
I built N.N.S. Dorina to 1:48 in the 1980's
PM me if you are interested.

I thought that design looked similar to something! Did the type 21 come before or after this one? they have a very similar look?

Looks like a "Mini" 21.

the nigerian corvette slightly preceded the The type 21 though they would have been building them both @ the same time.
Dorina comissioned in 72  Amazon launched 71 comissioned 74

Built at the same time but there was a big difference in size.   61 metres for Dorina and 117 metres for Amazon.   Far more modern armament on the 21's.
An updated Mk.3 was proposed with modern gun and missiles but never got beyond the sketch stage.
It was followed by the Mk.5's for Iran which where / are a scaled down Type 21
