1/12 scale driver figure.
« on: March 18, 2008, 08:06:58 pm »

Hi all,
I'm presently working up a 1/12 scale Notre Dame hydro. this is the G.Finlay plan up-scaled.
The problem I'm having at the moment is locating a driver figure that has arms, I'm not bothered about the lower body.

There's lots of Aero pilot figures available, nice and light too but no arms. Since the cockpit now has instrument dials and a lovely vintage four spoke wheel, I really would like the figure to have arms.
So if anyone can point me in the right direction, that would really float my boat.

                     Cheers all........................Macy. O0

Some of the best figures in 1/12th are the very old Tamiya pit crew figures that were designed for thier range of 1/12th formula one cars.

They have been out of production now for a long time but you still se them quite regularly on Ebay.  I have seen them used on a couple of boats but the crab boat below is one of the nicest examples.

Think you might have to adapt another figure.
George Turner does 1:12 lifeboatmen amongst others.

Hi

You could try Classic Hydros at http://classichydros.com/drivers.htm or Hansen Racing at Offshore Electrics http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/products.php?cat=21

This is the Classic Hydro figure

Hi all,
Great stuff guys, I managed to get the figure from Classic Hydros.com, as suggested by Richard (TESTER).

Only £10.25 inc post, it's got arms and its lightweight too "what a bonus". Thanks again for all your help.

                  Cheers.......................Macy.

P.S. On completion I will post some pics

Hi again,
I'm afraid I don't have many pics sorted out yet, but I will post them in the near future along with a piece on the actual build. Anyway here's a few of what I have so far.
 1. Is the Allison 28 litre Aero engine used in these boats. All ex scrap box stuff.
 2. Is the unfinished underside 40thou thick magnesium sponson runners.
 3. Is the topside working up (about three coats here) seven in all.
