The latest computer graphic for the new Type 26 Global Combat Ships, showing the latest tweaks to the design.
I love the giant satcom domes flanking the mast and the two side by side antenna arrays on the hangar roof. Mines a 1/72 scale one please :-))

Bet we never see 13 of them.

Or maybe the Scottish Navy will also buy a few?  %)

 >>:-( ...sorry.... the American built Charles F Adams class ---[Perth class in OZ]........ie., our HMAS Perth, Brisbane & Hobart DDG's were acknowledged as the most superior [for their time] destroyers ever owned by our Navy & far superior to any British designed warship
The latter Oliver Perry class [FFG's] and our current ANZAC class vessels naturally have up to date fire & control systems....however many debate if are/were superior to the DDG's .........
Which Government in power at the time will dictate a nominal % of Australian content in the next build ........this is why the Collins class submarines are a discredit to the builders...by political interference & technical incompetence in understanding reality..........

Canada's 'Halifax' Class frigates entered service in the early/mid-1990's, and most have completed their mid-life refits. Suppose we could talk my Gov't into a dozen Type 26's for the RCN? :-))
That would bring the total # up to 25 with the attendant economies of scale. O0

RAAArtyGunner...... :o  our DDG's were purchased as new vessel builds & the acknowledgment I suggested as below was via Australian Naval staff
Regrettably, Naval staff did not make the final decision to purchase junk from the USA........[Manoora] it was a political decision  %%  made against the recommendations of Navy <*<
The political philosophy of piece meal.......lets build a module @ Wildock in Victoria, a module in Newcastle, a module in GI in Perth & another module @ GI in Sydney & ship them all to the ASC in Adelaide is fraught with danger ....because the 'blinking!' modules don't line up  >:-o  & Navy is left to pay for the overspend to correct the errors
But lets not get bogged down with recent political decisions..........the two carriers that sailed as HMAS Sydney & HMAS Melbourne were designed & built for North sea conditions & climate.......certainly not the sub tropical Australian climate........I am told they were both PIGS of vessels to sail in >>:-( ............Derek

Derek,

Mate, just proves that Army knows nothing about Navy except small ships O0 {-) {-)

I have a, B&D, (American made) 1:96 scale model kit, of Oliver Hazard Perry, so I like the ship class but with the passage of time, read age and eyesight, am going to sell it as it won't get built.

Apparently you were to investigate buying some but your government has ruled this out to keep shipbuilding in Canada

I can't remember where I read it but Brazil was offered a full navy in a deal by BAe
They would get about 6 type 26 frigates, 4 river class patrol boats and a wave class tanker
All brand new no ex RN

Yes, you are right, of course.

During all the fuss about our 'Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy', it sounded like they were only talking about replacements for the 'Iroquois' class - but I double-checked, and there are supposed to be 15 'Single Class Surface Combatant Ships'. Don't know how I managed to overlook that in the first place. :embarrassed:

We've also signed an agreement to build the German 'Berlin' class replenishment ships, under licence.

Yeah, upon 'sober' second thought, I shall send an e-mail to my MP suggesting that we (Canada) should do a 'licence' deal with the RN for the Type 26 design, like we've done for the 'Berlin' class replenishment ships...potentially HUGE savings during the design process.

Saturday evening here, so I ought to wait for Monday morning...
