Servo cycling randomly
« on: October 10, 2013, 06:17:11 pm »

I am running a steam launch with the forward/reverse selected with a switch on the transmitter (2.4 GHz), so it's simply in one position or the other.  A couple of times recently the servo operating the forward/reverse lever has started cycling back and forth without any command.  Both times the boat was on its stand with the Tx close by and everything switched on.  The only way to stop it seems to be switch the boat system off.  Neither of the other servos in the boat (one of which is the same model as the problem one) are affected.

Is this a faulty servo or is there another reason for this?  Or should I just keep the transmitter further away?  Suggestions welcome.

Greg

it sounds like a servo has failed , have you tried plugging the rudder servo into the forward / reverse port of the rx to check weather its the servo  or the rx ?

Either a broken servo, or a dud switch supplying the information telling the servo where to be.
Less likely is a servo power problem - this usually just leads to twitching rather than full cycling.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.  The annoying thing is the fault is intermittent and occasional - it certainly doesn't happen every time I switch the radio gear on.  So changing RX port or swapping servos might not show anything for a while.  However, I will try swapping things around to see if I can isolate the problem.  I guess I should get a new servo just in case - a spare is always a good move anyway!   :-))

Thanks again

It may be a loose or dirty connection on the servo lead.
