What is red and wood coloured?
« on: October 23, 2013, 04:21:30 pm »

Anyone guess?

Yep a wooden boat hull, when you bleed all over it! %% Chisel slipped on a particularly tough bit and embedded itself in the web of my thumb, hey ho gave the wife something to do applying steristrips to pull the cut closed.

Anyone else with stupid tool accidents?

Don't forget, cyanoacrylate was invented to glue Vietnams wounded back together in the field hospitals.

always wondered as to the safety of using that  - it does have the letters CYANO - is this a member of the cyanide family? whats the risk of entering the blood stream etc.

I know it is a stupid question - but not a chemical engineer.

Hi I was assured by a GP that instant glue was fine for skin joins as we know, usually to our cost.  I also use it to repair a torn or split finger nail, no problems there either.

This is a partial urban myth.  The first superglue was invented in 1942 during a search for an instant clear plastic to make gunsights.  It wasn't suitable for task and didn't surface again for 10 years when a guy called Coover remembered that it would stick almost anything to anything.  Released as an adhesive in 1958 by Eastman Kodak.
A version of butyl cyanoacrylate was used as a medical adhesive initially by vets but then by hospitals and it was used in field medicine.  So not invented for Vietnam but certainly had limited use there.

Good idea, if the model gets stolen it could be traced back to you. {-)
