What is it
« on: October 27, 2013, 07:41:26 am »

Need some help with this battery.

The label has the following written on it

TEKCELL LITHIUM BATTERY

5/SB-CO2

18 volt

(MG)

Assembled in Australia

Company Logo (Mi maybe) with Battery Experts written under logo.

Have searched on the web as best I can, but have not been able to find any information about this battery, the model or the company.
It has only two thin wires and not the balancing connector as found on Lipo types. Little bit out of my depth here, so I am guessing it is Lipo or is Lithium something else.

Have one of those intelligent Imax chargers, that I use for my NiMh batteries so can charge the battery if I know for certain what it is and if it is missing any plugs/connectors.

It looks like it is made up of 5 ‘C” cells much like a 5Volt NiMh pack.

So any info or where to find info would be appreciated.

PS, What looks like a third wire is a shadow of the wire above.

Hi I found this site at first try.

http://www.steatite-batteries.co.uk/tekcell-lithium-batteries.html

I don't know that they are rechargeable so may just have 2 wires.

Looks like it;s one of these to me http://www.batterymasters.co.uk/Product-Tekcell-3.6V-C-size-SB-C02_1276.aspx :-))
If you read the PDF spec sheet attached to the above link it says "DO NOT RECHARGE"

Hi RAA.... If the batteries split down into useable cells they keep there capacity for years, they could be of use for testing.  I bought, many years ago, some lithium batteries that seemed to last forever, testing motors etc.  2 cells give 7.4 volts so could still be of use on the work bench.

;) Be careful you don't short out or put high discharge on  these batteries, they don't like it and will explode, I have seen this happen on a back up battery on a electronic consul controlling sliding gates it made quite a mess, they are used for their long life only need changing every 5 years, hope this is of some help,Ray. ;) ;) ;)

Armed with all this new 'knowledge'  O0 O0 O0 put a meter on the battery and it is down to just over 3Volts, nowhere near the 18 listed, so can't see any benefit in trying to break the pack apart.
