what brushless set up do you recommend
« on: October 27, 2013, 09:39:26 pm »

right
decided to get rid of my 6v belt driven motors and 6v hunter escs and go brushless
new to brushless but after fitting a 1700kv  out runner on 9.6v to my atlantic 21 I feel this is the way to go as very impressed.
any you guys recommend a brushless motor and esc with reverse that will suit my model slipway trent
bearing in mind I will have two motors running 45mm 4 blade props
and don't want a bank loan to buy them
like I said new to brushless so any recommendations appreciated would like to run it on 6v nimh as just bought 4 new 3700ah batts.
or 12v at a push .
cheers

Do you know the origional RPM of the motors and reduction of the belt drive, and were you happy with that performance,? that info would be a place to start to get an idea of the spec motors you need, at a guess knowing the prop size though for 7.2 volts a 1200-1400 KV motor 28 or 36  mm diameter range would do the job nicely. you would need no more than 40 amp escs for this setup.

cheers mate
the motors I got are 18000 rpm through 2.5-1 reduction
I am only running them on 6v so unsure of the revs as the hunter sytems esc are only rated at 6v not happy with speed it produces.
I had a trent before running graupner speed 600s direct drive  on 9.6v that went perfect
I could go back to that but really want to try brushless
thanks for your help

forgot to say the motors I got are rated 18000 revs at 12v
so I take it im getting about 9000 at 6v
so through the gearbox about 4000 am I right ???

Yep that sounds about right, the motors I linked to will give much better performance. The Kv of the motor is more than double what you currently have  :}
