Upset little Bunny
« on: October 26, 2013, 01:50:24 pm »

Hi all, can any one help please. I have just brought a robbe Futaba f-14 6 channel radio and a robbe multi decoder switch and prop unit 12 +2. Westbourne models installed the new board in the tx for me, this should now turn my 6 channel outfit into a 12 channel set up. When I recieved the radio I found that none of the new switches would work at all, but the servo "knobs" on the new board would. I returned the whole out fit to Westbourne, they have checked it out, and said that it was all ok. But since leaving them and it being returned to me the 6 switches will not work with any type of switching unit or servo. Is it my age getting to me? I would love to find out what has happened here. Please help!! :((

Sorry, I had one didn't like it so sold it on.
There are not very many of these sets that are expanded so not a great deal of knowledge.

If Westbourne fitted it and have since checked it and say that it is ok - TALK TO THEM.... Have they actually had it working? If so then there is something in your setup that is different to theirs, a chat on the phone might solve the problem quickly and easily.

It might well be worth a trip up to Dorset to visit them. If you can combine it with another purpose like taking SWMBO shopping in Bristol, it will prove just as expensive, but easier on the ears perhaps.

Thank you very much for the replies. The encoder is installed in to the tx, the servo knobs [7 + 8] work, but none of the other switches will. I might have to plan a trip up to Bournemouth, it might be easier, but so busy at work for the next couple of weeks. Thank you once again guy's. Got to go off to work now.
Thank you very much fo the help.

Sorry if I am asking the obvious.
Is the decoder installed on the Rx?

You talk about the unit not working with any kind of switching unit or servo. It isn't intended or designed to. A power supply has to be connected to the top set of pins on the decoder (negative to outside pin; positive to centre). The switches then route this power through the various sets of pins K1 through K6 directly to the loads e.g. bulbs. The two servo channels take their power through the lead which connects the decoder to the receiver so there's every chance of them working even if you haven't connected anything else up correctly.
If you still can't get it to work and feel the need to trash it then please let me know. I shall send you my address and the money to cover the   postage charge so you can send it here for "recycling"..................

I have an F14 expanded with 12+2 Module and Multi switch.
I concur with what 'Inertia' says.
The "Batt" socket needs a power input of 4.8v - 24v.
Then sockets K1 to K6 are six pairs or relays for switching that voltage to your devices.

Continuos current capability of each switched output depends on how many outputs you have switched on at the same time.
I'm assuming you have the instruction sheet 'robbe-Form 40-4247 BBJG' ?
If not, PM me your email and I'll send you a scanned copy.

A big thank you for all of the feed back on this. I now know that I am getting some where with it, so thanks again for all of the help. I think next time I will visit the supplier in person, rather than buying online, at least I will know that I have the right piece of kit!!! Thanks all.
Regards.

I have done it!!! Have it all working now :-)  Thanks for all of the help, I took in what mrlownotes said, had a think about it, and realised that it is mostly [I think] a set of relay switches in its self. That was my relay swiches that were coupled to to decoder would not work. Really pleased now. Going to get cracking on the model ship now. 1/48th scale model of HMS Woodpecker, with as many working functions as I can. Thanks guy's, I owe you all a pint.
Thank you guy's
ps. Still now what voltage I can use, I have been using a spare rx pack with it, but if every thing I use is 12 volts, I assume it will need a 12 volt supply.
